Description
The chapel-tomb of the Kochans in the village of Ivashkovtsy is one of the 21 architectural monuments of the Smorgon district of the Grodno region included in the register of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus. This chapel was built in the early 20th century by the Kochan families, who were probably parishioners from Sol. However, no more information has been preserved about them.
The chapel served as a parish church in the absence of a church in Soly at that time.

The chapel-tomb of the Kochan family in the village of Ivashkovtsy is a monument unique in its architectural design.
Unfortunately, the existing project of this architectural monument, created in 1908 by a professional architect, remains unsigned. There are also no individual characteristics that could help identify the author.
In the surviving photographs from 1916, you can see the completed construction. It is known that in 1917 a wooden part was added to the chapel and thus a church was organized, which existed in this form until about 1935.
The chapel is quite unique in its architectural design and is a striking example of Neo-Gothic architecture with a vertical layout characteristic of this style. It looks like a small castle. On the roof, the turrets are topped with three elegant metal crosses, and the entrance doors are made of cast iron and consist of two flaps.
The inner altar of the chapel is wooden and improvised. There is a crypt under it, in which sarcophagi with the remains of at least six people have been preserved.
A fairly large cemetery with Catholic and Orthodox graves has grown up around the chapel.
Not far from the chapel-tombs of Kochans are the graves of German soldiers who died during the First World War.
In recent years, restoration work has been carried out on the chapel, which is necessary to preserve the monument for many years to come. After all, the few architectural monuments preserved on the territory of the country are evidence of the history and culture of our people, and their preservation and transmission to the next generations is of great importance.
