Description
The Catholic stone church in the city of Ivanovo, Brest region, was built in the Empire style in 1848 thanks to funds provided by abbot Frantisek Pallulon, who was a personal friend of the Russian Emperor Nicholas I. Before the outbreak of World War II, the side altar housed the royal icon of St. Catherine.
The Holy Cross Church, which was returned to the parishioners in 1995, is a crazy rectangular temple in plan. Red and pink pilasters stand out on the bright main facade, topped with a stepped attic. In the left altar there is a historical artifact — a wooden cross carved by Napoleon Horde, and the figure of Jesus was created by his niece, sculptor Helena Skirmunt.

Holy Cross Church
The Holy Cross Church was built in 1848 in the Empire style. This style, characteristic of the late XVIII — early XIX century, is known for its grandeur and solemnity, as well as an emphasis on harmony and symmetry. Financing for the construction of the temple was provided by abbot Frantisek Pallulon, who was a personal friend of the Russian Emperor Nicholas I, which at that time was a rather rare and amazing phenomenon.
Before the Second World War, there was a valuable artifact in the side altar of the temple — the icon of St. Catherine, a gift from the Russian emperor himself. This icon emphasized the importance of the temple and its connection with high circles of power. In Soviet times, like many other religious buildings, the church was closed and used for various secular purposes. However, in 1995, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the church was returned to the parishioners, and they began its restoration and active use for worship services.
The Holy Cross Church is a crazy rectangular temple in terms of plan, which in itself is quite a unique feature. The main facade of the temple is made in bright colors and decorated with a stepped attic, which gives the building additional sophistication and grandeur. Special attention is drawn to the red and pink pilasters, which create an expressive contrast against the light facade.
There are also many interesting architectural and historical elements inside the temple. In the left altar there is a wooden cross carved by the famous artist Napoleon Horde. This cross is not only a religious, but also a cultural artifact that connects a generation of craftsmen. The figure of Jesus on this cross was created by Napoleon Orda's niece, the famous sculptor Helena Skirmunt. This cross and figure is an example of craftsmanship and devotion to religious traditions.
Holy Cross Church is especially famous for its cult of St. Andrew Boboli. Saint Andrew Bobola was a Jesuit monk known for his missionary work and ability to convince people of the faith. For this, he was nicknamed the "apostle of Polesie". On May 16, 1657, Saint Andrew was martyred at the hands of Cossacks at the Yanovsky market. His heroic deed and martyrdom left a deep mark on history and religious tradition.
At the place of his death there used to be a high chapel, resembling a column, which was captured in his drawings by Napoleon Orda. Today, this image is embodied by brick turrets at the corners of the church fence. From one of the towers, the figure of St. Andrew Boboli looks at the renovated city square, as if reminding everyone of his feat and importance.
Holy Cross Church is not only a place for worship and religious rituals, but also an important center of pilgrimage. Every year hundreds of Catholic pilgrims from different countries come here to worship St. Andrew Boboli and enjoy the beauty and spiritual atmosphere of the temple.
Special attention is drawn to the fact that this temple was able to preserve its uniqueness and significance, despite difficult historical periods and trials. The restoration of the temple in 1995 and its further restoration became a symbol of spiritual rebirth and strengthening of faith.
Thus, the Holy Cross Church is an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of the region, inspiring believers and travelers with its uniqueness and spiritual power.
