Church of the Ascension of the Lord in the village of Khvoshno.

Built back in 1807, the Church of the Ascension of the Lord was the result of the joint efforts of Count Sologub, the owner of the Yezerishche estate, and local parishioners. In those days, when the parish numbered more than three thousand souls, the church was a spiritual center for the surrounding residents.

The stone temple building, built without heating and topped with an iron roof, was notable for its impressive size. The length of the temple was more than thirteen meters. The two-tiered bell tower towered over the neighborhood, reminding of eternal values. The temple was part of the Gorodok district deanery and was decorated with two chapels dedicated to Archangel Michael and the Transfiguration of the Lord.

In the tragic year 1922, the church lost its silver decoration, which was seized in favor of the starving. Severe trials befell the church during the Great Patriotic War. After the war, deprived of funds and materials, the locals partially dismantled the vestibule and the walls of the temple for their own needs.

It seemed that time would irrevocably destroy the shrine. But in 1999, thanks to donations from the natives of these places, Nikolai Efimovich Kryukov and Viktor Afanasyevich Protasov, who live in America, the temple gained a second life.

Today, the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, made in the classical style, is an architectural monument that still impresses with its splendor.

In 2024, with the blessing of Archbishop Dimitri of Vitebsk, major repairs of the dome of the church began, which indicates the desire to preserve the spiritual heritage.
