Description

Kobrin district is famous for its amazing churches and churches, many of which are made of wood. The village of Khabovichi, located in the Kobrin district, is an ancient settlement. At the beginning of the 20th century, presumably in 1911, the Intercession Church was built here. Externally, it is very similar to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, located in the village of Divin in the same area. The church was built on the site of the former temple, which burned down.

The Church of the Intercession in the village of Khabovichi.

The Church of the Intercession of the Virgin is a magnificent structure. His iconography is dominated by the canonical blue color, symbolizing the Mother of God. Both the exterior and interior elements of the temple are made in this color, which is appropriate, because it was consecrated in honor of the feast of the Intercession, which embodies divine protection. Churches consecrated in honor of the Intercession occupy the second most popular place in the Orthodox world, second only to the temples of St. Nicholas.

However, the church in Khabovichi stands out for its uniqueness and beauty, which attracted the attention of artists exploring Slavic architecture. It was soon listed as a historical monument and today it is an object of national importance.

The temple is built of wood, the boards are laid horizontally, and the facade is decorated with carvings and painted blue, decorated with carved elements. The architecture of the Church of the Intercession is traditional for Orthodox churches, with a bell tower in the form of a tent and domes resembling bulbs.

Although the interior may seem modest, there are actually a lot of icons and gold inside, which makes the church look impressive. The dome inside is decorated with small windows and images of saints. The church also houses valuable icons from the 17th and 19th centuries, such as the 'Vilno Martyrs' and 'St. George the Victorious'.

The history of the restoration of the unique icon "Ascension of Christ — Protection of the Virgin", found in 1980 and restored thanks to the efforts of restorers from three countries, is noteworthy.

Opinions are divided about the closure of the church during the Soviet era: official sources speak of closure, while local residents assure that the church continued to work even in difficult times.

It is important that this small church remains a symbol of faith and beauty today.
