Grodno. Sovetskaya Street. The former district court building.

In the city of Grodno, on Sovetskaya pedestrian street, there is a stone three-story building (house number 31), where the Grodno District Court was previously located. The building has the status of an architectural monument.

The building was rebuilt from the Masalsky Princes' palace and acquired eclectic style features. The house was significantly rebuilt in 1884. The author of the project is architect Vasily Fedorovich Nebolsin (1822-1900). The architect approached the reconstruction of the historic building very responsibly and managed to combine various architectural styles.

The ancient basements of the Masalsky Palace, where the cafe is now, were adapted for warehouses and utility rooms of the district court.

After the Riga Peace of 1921, Grodno fell under the rule of the Polish state until 1939, before the arrival of Soviet power. And at that time, high-profile political trials of interwar Poland were taking place in the courthouse. In 1925, the "Trial of the 72nd" took place. It was a trial of the Belarusian partisans, who in 1922-1923 operated in Belovezhskaya Pushcha and in the Belostok voivodeship.

There were several shops and institutions in the building: Danilevsky's hairdresser, D. Gurvich pharmacy warehouse, alkohol store F. Kjaminskoi, I. Garuta's linen and haberdashery store "Hercules", an Ostrovsky's tobacco store.

After the war, the building was occupied by the regional prosecutor's office, the regional committee of the Red Cross, a consumer store where vending machines for carbonated water were installed for the first time in Grodno, the Harvest society, and the Verasok store with a confectionery shop.

Now the regional branch of the NGO "Belarusian Union of Writers", the Retro Pizza bar, a coffee shop, a travel company and other establishments work in this house.

The building is adjacent to the house on Ozheshko Street, 1.
