Grodno. The building of the men's gymnasium.

In the city of Grodno, on Sovetskaya pedestrian street, at number 6, there is a stone two-story building of a former men's gymnasium. The monument was erected in the 18th century. The building has been rebuilt several times.

The building originally belonged to the Catholic Dominican monastery, which was erected in 1735 during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In addition to the monastery premises, the Grodno Dominican Gymnasium operated here.

During the Russian Empire, after the anti–Russian uprising of 1830-1831, the monastery was closed, and a men's gymnasium began operating here. And the monastery church, which was the next building down the street, and has not been preserved to this day, was transferred to the gymnasium church.

Famous teachers and scientists taught at the gymnasium. Many graduates of the educational institution have become well-known figures in Belarus and abroad. The historian and local historian Evstafy Orlovsky (1863-1913) taught here. K. Kalinovsky's brother, Viktor Kalinovsky, studied there. Jozef Jodkowski (1890-1950), a graduate of the gymnasium, was an archaeologist and numismatist, and the founder of the museum in Grodno. Jonas Jablonskis, the author of the first Lithuanian grammar, taught Greek and Latin at the gymnasium.

After the Riga Peace of 1921, Grodno came under the rule of the Polish state until 1939. During this period, the Emilia Plater Girls' Gymnasium and a bookstore operated in the building.

With the advent of Soviet power, secondary school No. 11 was located here from the fall of 1939 until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

After the war, the building was adapted for the sausage shop of a meat processing plant, and then the premises were adapted for residential apartments. And now there are residential apartments and a Euroset salon here.
