Grodno. The House of the Sofia Brotherhood.

In the historical center of Grodno, between Sovetskaya Square, which was formerly called Trade Square, where the Church of Francis Xavier is located, and the royal castle, there is an ancient Zamkovaya (Castle) Street. Several architectural monuments have been preserved on Zamkovaya Street to our time.

If you walk from Sovetskaya Square along Zamkovaya Street near the square where the Fara Vitovta catholic Church was located, the first house on the right is an architectural monument of the 19th and early 20th century.

The building is known as the St. Sophia Brotherhood House, the home of St. Sophia Cathedral.

The building was erected during the Russian Empire in 1903 at the Orthodox St. Sophia Cathedral. According to other sources, the house was rebuilt from an old church building. St. Sophia Cathedral was located nearby in the park on the right side. This is an Orthodox church, a former Catholic church, the so-called Fara Vitovta.

The Grodno Orthodox Brotherhood was located in the church building. Newspapers were also sold here at retail.

After the Peace of Riga in 1921, Grodno was under the rule of the Polish state until the arrival of Soviet power in 1939. During the time of the Polish state, there was a colonial consumer goods store owned by Rachel Zahari. There were also shops of Praxeda Parai and Tavba Trope.

The building now houses the 'Guests' Restaurant.
