Grodno. Fuchs House.
In Grodno, on Sovetskaya pedestrian street (number 7), there is a stone two-story house called the Fuchs House, or the house of Doppelberg and Jose.
The house was built in the 18th century. The building itself consists of two houses.
In one house, where the Optika store is now, in the 18th century there was a "Palace with Pan Alexandrovich's official rooms." Then, at the end of the 18th century, baker Y. Rautenberg acquired the house. In 1858, it was sold for heavy debts to merchant Leiba Fuchs and councilor Gan. In 1885, a large fire broke out and the building was destroyed by fire. The building was dismantled, and in 1910 a new house was erected.
The second part of the building was built in the late 18th - early 19th century. In 1832, it was significantly rebuilt and received the appearance of today's structure – a two-story house with a gate passage.
The house belonged to Leiba Fuchs. The revolutionary Ildefons Milevich, who worked as a land surveyor and was the secretary of the leader of the uprising in Grodno, rented an apartment in the house. Members of the Revolutionary Committee of Grodno, E. Zablotsky, J. Kozlovsky and F. Rozhansky. The leader of the uprising, K. Kalinovsky, also visited here.
At the end of the 19th century, the pharmacy of J. Rumel, the Vershinsky-Traube ballet school, and the stationery store of Sora Gan worked in the premises of this house.
After the war, the building housed the Department of Construction and Restoration of the Belostok Railway, the canteen of the vocational school, the diet canteen, and the Astra cafe.
From Soviet times to the present day, the Optika store has been operating here.
