Grodno. St. Vladimir's Church.
In the city of Grodno, across the Neman River, an Orthodox church of the 19th century has been preserved to our time, which was consecrated in honor of St. Vladimir.
The temple was built during the time of the Russian Empire. The foundation stone was laid in the summer of 1895. The temple was built according to the project of architect Ivan Plotnikov.
Donations for the construction of the temple were collected not only in Grodno, but also from all over the Russian Empire. For example, John of Kronstadt donated 150 rubles. The interior was already made in 1896, and the iconostasis was created by the famous Moscow artist Dmitry Strukov. In December 1896, the church was consecrated.
During the First World War, when the front was approaching and during the evacuation of the temple, all valuables were taken to Russia, including the iconostasis.
During the period of the Polish state in the 1920s and 1930s, the temple was rebuilt and a new iconostasis was created.
After the Great Patriotic War, the territory near the church began to be actively built up: a glass factory and a driveshaft factory were built nearby, and a highway embankment was made. They wanted to make the church a glass factory club first, and then demolish it altogether. But thanks to the believers, the temple was saved.
The monument was erected in the neo-Russian style. The building consists of four main parts: the vestibule, the refectory, the main volume and the apse. A two-tiered bell tower is built over the vestibule. The main volume is covered by a four-pitched roof. A pentagonal apse is attached to the main volume. The interior features a wooden iconostasis.
