Gorodishche. Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

A wooden Orthodox church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross has been built in the center of Gorodishche, Baranovichi district. The temple was originally built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1764 and the sponsor was head of the Vilno Prince Pats. The shrine belonged to Uniate believers.

 After the partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the place became part of the Russian Empire. In 1839, Uniatism was banned and the church passed to the Orthodox. In 1879, the building was significantly rebuilt in a retrospective Russian style.

In the 1870s, a wooden iconostasis was created. A wooden bell tower was built near the church in the 1840s.

 The monument was erected in the traditions of Belarusian wooden architecture with elements of the retrospective – Russian style. The building consists of three main parts: a vestibule, a prayer hall and an apse. The prayer hall has a cuboid volume to which a pentagonal apse is attached. The main volume is covered by a four-pitched two-tiered roof. Completed with an onion dome on an octagonal drum.

 There are choirs in the interior. The church has ancient burials. The temple grounds are surrounded by a stone fence. The church has been renovated in recent years.
