Gorodechno. The Intercession Church.
In the Pruzhany district in the village of Gorodechno there is a stone Orthodox church, which was consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. The shrine was built in honor of the battle with the French troops in 1812.
In the summer of 1812, a battle took place near Gorodechno between the troops of General Tormasov's third army and the corps of Prince Schwarzenberg. After the war, Tormasov repeatedly expressed the opinion to the Grodno governor at a meeting and in correspondence that it was necessary to honor the memory of the battle of Gorodechno.
A major industrialist and tycoon, Wojciech Puslovsky, who was the owner of the village, sponsored the construction of the memorial church. Puslovsky served as marshalok of the Slonim district. The landowner Shemet also took part in the construction of the temple.
The Church of the Intercession was built in 1825, and originally it belonged to the Uniates. After the suppression of the anti-Russian uprising, an iconostasis was installed in the church, and the building was handed over to Orthodox believers. After the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed and a granary was equipped there, and then a sports hall was built. Gradually, the building fell into disrepair.
With the collapse of the USSR, the church was handed over to believers. Repairs were carried out. Nearby there is an ancient park with century-old oak trees.
