Gomel. Andrey Gromyko Square

At the beginning of the 20th century, this place was home to an ordinary city garden, which was a favorite vacation spot for children and families. Warm summer evenings were spent here, relaxing after a day at work, factory workers, artisans, railway workers and many other residents of the city came.

In the 1930s, the square was transferred to the pioneer organization, and it received its original name — Pioneer Square. This place has become a gathering and event center for young people.

In 1989, a bust of A.A. Gromyko was installed in the park, which faces Sovetskaya Street. The bust, made of bronze and mounted on a 3-meter-high pedestal, became the center of the composition of the square.

Andrei Andreevich Gromyko was an outstanding Soviet diplomat and statesman who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR from 1957 to 1985, and from 1985 to 1988 was Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He also had a PhD in economics. Having been born near Gomel, Gromyko received the honor of being immortalized in this park.

In addition to models of famous landmarks, stationary arches decorated with garlands are installed in the park. When they are lit, the square is transformed, filled with a silver-gold glow, which creates a fabulous atmosphere. After renovation in 2018, a fountain was also opened in the park.
