The Observation Tower in Gomel Park is a historical structure built in the first half of the 19th century.

This tower was originally the exhaust pipe of a sugar factory, which was converted into an observation tower in the early 1880s. After the reconstruction, completed on November 26, 2015, the tower reopened its doors to visitors, providing an opportunity to enjoy a panoramic bird's-eye view of Gomel: the historical city center, the city park, the Sozh River and the embankment, the Novobelitsky district of the city. The visit to the tower is paid.

The tower was built on the territory of the Rumyantsev-Paskevich estate and causes a lot of controversy among historians. Some believe that this is just a factory pipe, while others are sure that it had a different purpose. The first owner of the estate, Field Marshal Pyotr Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky, planned to build a noble school on this site, but did not manage to complete the project. Later, Ivan Paskevich converted the buildings for the school into a sugar factory, and it was then that a 40-meter brick exhaust pipe appeared. After a fire at the factory, the surviving pipe was converted into an observation tower.

The tower managed to survive during the Great Patriotic War, despite the fact that it was repeatedly shelled.

In the 2000s, the observation tower was reconstructed and strengthened, and a new fence was installed.

It is said that underground passages have recently been discovered under the tower, which may be part of a maze laid under the most ancient part of the city, which adds even more mysteries to the history of this unique structure.
