The mysterious grave and monument to Baron Munchausen in the town of Glubokoe.
Why was a monument to Munchausen erected in Glubokoe? Who is buried in the ancient Koptevka cemetery?
It is known that more than ten years ago, a grave with the name Munchausen was discovered in the ancient Koptevka cemetery. It soon became known that the burial site belonged to a married couple, Ferdinand and Wilhelmina von Munchausen. Despite the fact that it was not possible to establish a direct connection with the famous baron, the find aroused great interest among tourists and locals.
The Glubokoe city authorities decided to support the legend and turn it into a tourist attraction. And in 2014, to mark the 600th anniversary of the city, a monument to Baron Munchausen, sitting astride a cannonball, was erected next to the cemetery. This image refers to an episode from his fantastic adventures during the Russian-Turkish War.
The locals humorously assure the guests of the city that "their" Munchausen is none other than a descendant of that famous baron, ironically fending off any doubts.: "The Baron could have made it up, but shouldn't we?"
Thus, Glubokoe turned a modest find in the cemetery into a vivid tourist legend, attracting lovers of history, humor and incredible stories to the city.
