Chapel of St. Elijah in Glubokoe
The Chapel of St. Elijah, built of brick in the 18th century at the Koptevka cemetery, impresses with its classical architecture.
It has not been used as a cult site for a long time and today, unfortunately, it is in an abandoned state. Despite the loss of the frescoes during renovation work in the 1930s, when they were covered with plaster, it continues to attract the attention of all those who appreciate the historical heritage. Here, in a quiet and secluded setting, you can pray for your loved ones who have passed away.
The chapel's structure is distinguished by its simplicity of form and harmony of proportions. Glubokoe St. Ilyininsky Church is a rectangular volume under a gable roof, which is highlighted on its facades with triangular pediments. The exterior decorations are semi-columns and pediment. A four-sided bell tower rises above the main entrance.
In the interior of the chapel, the flat ceiling immediately catches your eye, then you notice the choirs above the entrance.
The Chapel of St. Elijah in Glubokoe is not only a religious building. This is an important landmark of Belarus. And since Glubokoe is a city rich in sights, all kinds of various events and festivals, the path of tourists who came to Belarus on vacation does not overgrow the modest chapel at the historic Koptevka cemetery.
