Geranyony. Church of St. Nicholas.

The unique church of St. Nicholas has been preserved in Geranyony to this day. The first brick church was built in 1529 on the foundation of the Vilnius voivode Albrecht Gashtold. The church was built in the Gothic style and had a significant defensive value on the approaches to the castle. In the same church in 1537, the marriage of Barbara Radzivil and Stanislav Gashtold took place. In a few years, Barbara will become a widow. And this is where the family of Gashtolds in the male line stops. In the 18th century, after a great fire, the church was significantly rebuilt and acquired features of late baroque. In the 19th century, side sacristies were added to the church and the main facade was reconstructed. Interior paintings were done in the 1930s. During the Soviet rule, the church was not closed. The main altar is two-tiered and decorated with a Corinthian order, decorated with paintings with high-relief compositions and polychrome sculpture. An ancient organ has been preserved in the choir. The organ does not work and needs restoration. For some time, the restoration of the church took place, and on this occasion an exhibition was made in the interior of the church.
