The Church of the Intercession in Dzerzhinsk is an example of Russian architecture.
The Church of the Intercession in Dzerzhinsk is an example of Russian architecture. The temple is distinguished by its impressive size. Adjacent to the main body of the building are a rectangular apse and a vestibule located along the longitudinal axis. A four-sided wooden light drum with a hipped roof and a dome crowns the central volume, and small bulbous domes are located at the corners.
Arched openings serve as main and side entrances. The wide angled shoulder blades end in keeled arches with round rosettes in the tympanums. The facades are half rusticated, and the upper part is decorated with arched windows with keeled architraves and weights.
Inside, the hall is covered with cross vaults and illuminated by the windows of the drum, which is supported by four pillars through vaulted sails and arches. The pillars are connected to the walls and to each other by powerful arches. Above the entrance there are choirs with a narrow arched opening leading to the hall. A staircase in the oval side cage of the first tier of the bell tower leads to the choir. A two-tiered whitewashed iconostasis with gilded frames of seven icons highlights the apse. The church houses the icon of the 16th century "The Virgin", brought from the church of the village of Tonovo.
The church was closed in 1936 by order of the Bolsheviks, but with the arrival of the German troops, services resumed, and since then the church has not stopped its work.
A saint of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the soothsayer Valentina Minskaya, who is especially revered in this temple, is buried near Dzerzhinsk.
The Church of the Intercession is also known for the fact that in 2005 icons and crosses began to flow here, which attracts many pilgrims.
