Dudakovichi. Church of the Intercession
The small town of Dudakovichi has been known since the 16th century. Once there was a Catholic monastery here, which has not been preserved to our time. On the hill on the right side of the village, as you drive from Krugloe, the remains of the Orthodox Holy Intercession Church are visible from afar.
The Intercession church was built in the second half of the 19th century. The architectural monument was erected in the pseudo-Russian style, which at that time was fashionable in the territory of the Russian Empire. The church was built according to a standard design, that is, exactly the same churches were built in many regions of the empire. The temple has a centric cuboid volume, which is completed by an octagonal light tent drum. Decorative plastic saturates the architecture of the entire building: rectangular niches, arched friezes, and barrel columns at the corners. The main portal is decorated with risalite. The apse on the east side is decorated with the same risalite. The side entrances are also decorated in the form of portals. In the interior, a light drum is installed above the roof, which is supported by four powerful pillars. The church was painted with colored frescoes.
In Soviet times, the temple was closed and adapted for storage. Gradually, the building fell into disrepair and began to fall apart. The frescoes are crumbling. The monument is in a neglected state.
