An open-air archaeological site.
In the agro-town of Drutsk, on the right bank of the Drut River, a unique landmark has been preserved to this day. All parts of the settlement have been preserved in the form of embankments - a fortified citadel, a ring town and a settlement, as well as earthen ramparts and a ditch.
Drutsk was first mentioned in 1001. In the same year, one of the first Christian churches on Belarusian lands was built here.
Initially, these lands belonged to the Polotsk principality, in 1101 the Drutsk principality was formed. It had a very advantageous geographical location, being on the route "from the Varangians to the Greeks" and developed very quickly. The population of the Drutsk principality was engaged in all sorts of trades, producing a large number of various goods. Being very prosperous, this settlement was constantly becoming interesting to other principalities. Therefore, in order to protect against enemy attacks, a fortified city was created here.
Over time, Drutsk fell into decline. Also, probably, a fire occurred in the settlement, only embankments remained on the ground.
In 2001, a memorial sign was erected near the settlement in honor of the 1000th anniversary of Drutsk. A wooden tower for knightly tournaments and a boat, similar to those that had previously sailed along the Drut River, were also erected.
Archaeological expeditions and excavations are periodically organized in Drutsk.
On the way to Tolochin, 7 km from Drutsk, those who wish can visit the agro-town of Staroe Radcha. This is the village where the talented actor and filmmaker Sergei Bodrov Jr. grew up and loved to visit, but his life was tragically cut short in 2002. A memorial plaque has been installed here in his memory. The local cultural center has a stand with photos and basic information about Sergei Bodrov.
