Dashkovka. The Zhukovsky estate.
If you drive from Mogilev to Bykhov along the old Kyiv route along the right bank of the Dnieper, you will definitely pass through the town of Dashkovka.
The first written record of the town dates back to the 16th century, when it was part of the Mogilev old age. At the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th century, the formation of the palace-park complex of the Zhukovskys began. The first building was built at the end of the 18th century. During the war with Napoleon in July 1812, the palace housed a hospital for Russian soldiers, as a battle took place near the nearby village of Saltanovka between the troops of Marshal Davou and General Raevsky.
The building of the Zhukovsky estate was rebuilt in the 19th century in the eclectic and modern style. The Zhukovsky family held important positions in Mogilev district, for example, their representatives were marshals of the nobility of Mogilev District and had their own brick mansion in the center of the city on Velikaya Sadovaya Street.
The manor with a park is located on the bank of the Dnieper, from where beautiful landscapes can be seen. Therefore, it was not by chance that this town attracted the attention of famous researchers and statesmen: in 1877, the famous artist and composer Napoleon Orda visited here, who left a beautiful picture of the Zhukovsky estate, and during the First World War, when the Stavka of the Supreme Commander of the Russian Imperial Army was in Mogilev, the Russian Empress Alexandra Feodorovna wanted to buy the Dashkovka estate for her cottage, but the Zhukovskys did not agree to such a proposal and did not sell their family estate.
Now the local village council is located in a two-story brick building. Interior decor is partially preserved. In the future, it is planned to make a district local history museum in several halls. If you go down to the Dnieper along the path on the right side behind the palace, then on the left side you will see an unusual boulder with an inscription in Polish - it is a monument to the favorite dog of the Zhukovskys. Near the palace there is a small landscape park with a pond. In front of the building is a monument to Soviet soldiers who died during the war. On the way to the estate, you will pass the local high school - there is a local history museum with several halls, which was created by the efforts of local teachers. The tour of the museum is free.
