Doropeevichi. Bona Reclamation Canal.

The village of Doropeevichi, Malorita district, is located on the left bank of the Bona canal, which was created in the 16th century. The reclamation canal in the Brest Volga region is a left tributary of the Mukhavets River. The canal is 34 kilometers long and today it is the oldest canal of its type in Belarus. The canal originates in the Malorita district near the village of Zaorye and flows through the Malorita and Kobrin districts and then flows into the Mukhavets River in the city of Kobrin.

The canal was built by order of Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania Bona Sforza, who was entitled to Kobrin savings.

Bona Sforza d'Aragona (1494-1557) was the second wife of Sigismund I The oldman, the mother of King Sigismund Augustus and Anna Jagiellonka.

In the 1550s, Queen Bona began to carry out agrarian reform in the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania under the name 'Volochnaya pomera', and an audit of the lands was carried out. During the reforms, it became necessary to reclaim and settle previously uninhabited lands. The Bona canal was built on the territory of the Brest region and a swamp was drained near Kobrin. There was an attempt to build a new canal near Pinsk, where there was another residence of the Grand Duke of Lithuania.

The Bona Canal flows through the territory of the Malorita and Kobrin districts. It flows into the Mukhavets River on the territory of the city of Kobrin itself in the area of the New Bridge. A few years ago, a memorial sign was erected in Kobrin in honor of the first channel in Belarus. The Bona Canal was modernized in the 20th century and is still used for its intended purpose. The channel can be viewed in the town of Doropeevichi, the city of Kobrin and in several other towns.
