Doropeevichi. Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God.
Just 10 kilometers from Ukraine are Doropeevichi, which are based on the banks of the oldest reclamation canal in Belarus, the Bona Sforza canal of the 16th century.
The town of Doropeevichi has an interesting legend about the origin of the name of this settlement. Once upon a time there lived here two brothers who were called Dorofey and Dakim. Dorofey had many children, all of whom were called Dorofeevichs. This is where the name of the town itself comes from. The original name was Dorofeevichi. Sometimes, in some sources, the name of the place sounds like Bolshye Doropeevichi, since Malye Doropeevichi is located nearby.
The village of Doropeevichi is home to one of the oldest temples in the region. The Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1671. The main volume of the temple's composition has a rectangular building, which is covered with a two-tiered roof. A vestibule with a bell tower is attached to the main volume from the main entrance. The bell tower is a two-tiered quadrangle in the plan, which is completed with a four-sided spire with a small onion.
In the interior above the entrance of mayutsa hora. There was also a carved altar earlier. In 1902, an apse with sacristy was added from the eastern part of the church. Now the church has a three-tower elongated axial composition. The building was built on a low foundation of rubble stone.
The church was closed in Soviet times in 1964. There was even an attempt by Soviet activists to dismantle and destroy the Church, but the locals did not allow the shrine to be destroyed. In 1989, the church was returned to the faithful. Repairs were carried out. The church is active.
