Dokshitsy. Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The construction of the Intercession Church began in 1900 and was completed in 1903. This temple is a monument of architecture of the retrospective Russian style. Its three-dimensional composition, which is a rectangle in plan, is dominated by a tent belfry towering over the narthex. Above the four-pitched roof there is an octagonal drum topped with an onion dome.

The Church of the Intercession is located in the center of Dokshitsy. It is surrounded by a stone fence, and the church itself is partially lined with stone, which gives it a special appeal. The plastered vaults of the temple create a contrast with the stonework, but harmoniously combine with the blue roof. This beautiful structure adorns the very heart of Dokshits. In clear weather, the church merges with the blue expanse of the sky, and the golden domes reflect the light of the sun. If you come to Dokshitsy in winter, you will definitely be amazed at how the church looks standing on a white carpet of snow.

Fortunately, even during the Great Patriotic War, the temple was not destroyed. The Germans used the church premises only to collect prisoners there. The Church of the Intercession was even renovated during the war. Thanks to this, the temple has been preserved and continues to delight the townspeople with its splendor.

The Feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos is a great celebration for Orthodox believers. Many churches were built in honor of the Intercession, both in Belarus and in other countries. It is popularly believed that on this day autumn meets winter, and it is from this holiday, according to folk tradition, that the arrival of winter begins. It is believed that a white veil covers the earth on this day, symbolizing the beginning of the winter season and the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
