Ruins of the district hospital in Disna.
At the beginning of the 20th century, namely in 1902, a district hospital with one hundred beds was built in Disna, on the banks of the Western Dvina River.
During the First World War, when the Germans occupied the city, an officer's hospital was organized here. A cemetery for the burial of deceased patients appeared next to the medical institution. It is known that in 1918 the commander of the red division Gai spoke in front of the hospital, in the 1920s the proletarian poet Demyan Bedny read poetry here, and later the Belarusian writer Mikhas Mashara.
The building was actively used for the needs of the hospital. Until during the Second World War, in 1944, a fire broke out in the building as a result of shelling, completely destroying the wooden roof and ceilings.
Local authorities began restoring the structure in 1958, but a year later the Disna district was liquidated and work stopped. For a long time, the building stood in an abandoned state and eventually turned into a stage of ruins.
In the early 1990s, it was decided to transfer the remaining brick structure to the spiritual department for the organization of a candle factory.
Today, the front of the building is partially preserved, but there is a lot of destruction on the back side.
If you walk around the ruins, a few dozen meters away from them, there is an operating ferry across the Western Dvina.
