Disna. The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The first wooden church was built in Disney in the 1630s, which was financed by a nobleman from the Polotsk voivodeship, Christopher Malkevich-Hialchevsky. He also invited representatives of the Catholic Franciscan order to the place. A whole complex of buildings was built: a church, a monastery and a bell tower. And in addition, the church was granted an estate.
A stone church in the late Baroque style was built on the site of the wooden church in 1773. And the new church was named the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There was a crypt with burials in the church.
After the anti-Russian uprising of 1830-1831, the church was closed and the Franciscans left the place. But in 1839, the church was returned to the faithful. In the second half of the 19th century, there was a fire in the church, but the building was restored. During the Polish occupation, Franciscan priests returned to the church again. But in 1940, after joining the Soviet Union, the church was closed, and the priest was arrested. During the Great Patriotic War in 1941, the church buildings were severely damaged by fire.
After the war, the parishioners wanted to rebuild the church, but the authorities were against it. In 1958, the church was blown up and half of the building was destroyed.
In 2007, work began on the restoration of the church, and in 2016 all the walls of the church were restored. Interior restoration work is currently underway.
