Description
In the very center of the town of Disna, not far from Castle Hill, there is an Orthodox Church of the Resurrection. The temple was built in the 19th century in a pseudo–Russian style. In Soviet times, the church was closed and a warehouse was created here. At the end of the existence of the Soviet government, the building was handed over to believers and restoration was carried out. The church is functioning. Now there is a Sunday school at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ.
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Disney belongs to the objects of cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus. In the church there is a miraculous icon "Disney Hodegetria" — a list of the XVIII century from the icon "Smolensk Hodegetria".

Disna. The Church of the Resurrection of Christ.
In the Miorsky district of the Vitebsk region there is the smallest city in Belarus - this is the town of Disna. There are only fifteen hundred people living in the city. But there are several dozen ancient buildings and a Castle Hill. The architectural dominants above the city are the Orthodox church of the 19th century and the Catholic church of the 18th century. In the historical center, the tallest building is the Orthodox Church of the Resurrection.
The spiritual life of Disna was closely connected with the history of the Church of the Resurrection, which, according to legend, existed at the beginning of the 13th century. Since 1633, an Orthodox monastery existed at the church, an Orthodox brotherhood operated, a reminder of which has been preserved in the form of a silver cross. The history of Disna is tragic, and the history of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ is no less tragic. Frequent fires destroyed almost the entire city. The fire element of 1700 completely burned down houses, and the Church of the Resurrection burned down. In 1726, at the expense of the Disney burghers Timofey and Anna Borodulsky, a church was built on the site of an old one that burned down in a fire. In 1810, the church was transferred to the white clergy, and the monastery was closed. But this temple burned down during a terrible fire on June 16, 1822. Part of its interior was saved. According to legend, during the last fire, the Disneyans found the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Odigitria", which sailed along the Western Dvina River. Residents marched in a procession with a miraculous icon through the streets of the city, and the destructive fires stopped.
The new stone church was built in the 1864-1870s in the pseudo–Russian style, with funds from the treasury and significant donations from Mikhail Muravyov, Governor-General of the Vilna province. On May 12, 1870, the church was consecrated, and for many years it became the main one in the Disney district. The church kept a list of the 18th century miraculous icon of the Smolensk Hodegetria. During the First World War in 1915, this icon was evacuated to Moscow. After the war, the icon was returned back to the Resurrection Church.
After the revolution, the church was closed and the building was adapted for storage. In 1991, the Orthodox church was returned to the faithful. Restoration has taken place. Now the church decorates the historical center of the town with its appearance.
The church has 4 main parts: a vestibule, a refectory, a prayer hall and an apse. A multi-tiered bell tower is built over the narthex. An octagonal light drum is built above the prayer hall, completing the hemispherical dome.
