Description

On the road between Vishnevo and Bogdanovo in the Volozhin district there is a small village called Desyatniki. These places saw major battles during the First World War, as evidenced by the memorial created at the military cemetery during the Polish era.

To the left of the road on the hill there is a granite rotunda tower with an eagle with outstretched wings depicted on it. The monument is located on the edge of the cemetery, where soldiers of the Kaiser's troops and Austria-Hungary are buried.

Desyatniki. Cemetery from the First World War.

Cemeteries are part of our history and culture. Many ancient graves have been preserved in Belarus. After all, many wars and battles took place here. And 2 world wars also passed through our land. For a long time, during the First World War, the front passed near Desyatniki. The village itself was half of the Kaiser's troops and German and Austrian soldiers were buried here. According to some information, there are also burials of Russian soldiers here.

In the post-war years, during the Polish period, in 1922, the cemetery was landscaped and an unusual memorial was created. On the hillock near the Olshanka River, from where beautiful views open up, the victims of the world war found their peace. On the grave of each soldier there is a small square plaque with the name of the fallen soldier and the date of his death. An octagonal rotunda tower made of stone and granite rises above the cemetery. The tower is installed on a stepped pedestal. At the top of the tower there is a sculpture of an eagle with widely spread wings. On the tower at the main entrance to the cemetery there is a geodetic sign in Polish. The cemetery is in good condition.

Once you reach the cemetery, it is easy to leave your car near the bus stop on the right. Cross the road to the left and on the hill you will see a tower with stone steps leading up to it.
