Derevnaya. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is located in the center of the village of Derevnaya, but it is not so easy to find. In order to reach it, it is necessary to drive around the village, since a direct path along the main highway does not lead to the temple.

The exterior of the church is rather modest, which was typical for a time when much attention was paid to the defensive functions of buildings.

The construction of the church began with donations from the princes Radzivills and Vishnevetskys in 1590, although its final appearance was formed only in the 1630s. The second half of the 17th century brought additional changes, including the addition of a three-tiered tower. At the foot of the church there are monuments with inscriptions in Polish, and nearby there are a bell tower and graves of church servants.

The architectural monument is a single-nave single-towered church with a pentagonal apse and a high gable roof. A three-tiered tent tower rises above the main northern facade.

Today, an important aspect of the life of local residents is Sunday School, where education is conducted in the Belarusian language, and services in the church are also conducted in this language. This makes Derevnaya a unique place where the locals preserve their traditions and language, which is becoming rare in the modern world.

The local residents call the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary the pearl of the Stolbtsy district. Currently, it looks well-groomed and cultured, the villagers are happy to visit it every Sunday.

The village of Derevnaya is actively developing, but at the same time it preserves its history and traditions of its ancestors.

The temple is included in the list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus.
