Byten. Assumption Church.

The village of Byten in the Ivatsevichi district has been known for its Christian shrines since the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The Orthodox Assumption Church of the 17th century has been preserved to our time.

The city was first mentioned in the 16th century. The Assumption Church was first built as a chapel in 1654 at the architectural ensemble of the Basilian monastery. The monastery belonged to the Uniates and was considered one of the wealthiest and most influential monasteries in the Grand Duchy.

The monastery was founded in 1640 by Grigory Trizna, who held the post of Marshal of Slonim, and his wife Regina, who came from the Sapieh magnate family. After the death of their son Nikolai Trizny, the place passed to the Uniates and they became the owners here. In 1656, the head of the Basilian order, Benedict Terletsky, lived and worked at the monastery for some time.

The monastery was preserved by the incorruptible relics of Elder Simeon Stavrovsky, who for some time was the abbot of the monastery. In 1683, Lev Kiska (1668-1728), translator and writer, church leader of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, Doctor of theology, studied at the monastery and joined the Order of St. Basil the Great.

The Assumption Church was built in the style of the late Renaissance and early Baroque.

The main volume in the plan has a rectangular shape and is covered with a hip roof. An octagonal drum with an onion dome stands above the church. The interior of the temple is divided into three naves.

There is a wooden iconostasis and several ancient icons of the 18th century, including "Our Lady of Tenderness of Zhirovichskaya". The icon of the 16th century "Christ the Almighty", which came here from the Uniate monastery in Byteni, has great artistic and historical value. There is also an 18th-century wooden sculpture "the crucifixion".

In recent years, the church has been renovated and a new bell tower has been built in front of the temple.
