The monument dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the city is an iconic landmark of the city of Brest.
The monument was designed by Belarusian architects Alexei Andreyuk and sculptor Alexei Pavlyuchuk.
It represents a kind of unified model of the city of Brest, which presents important historical figures for the city: the Prince Vladimir Vasilkovich, who built the Brest Tower in the village of Berestye; Grand Duke of Lithuania Vitovt; Nikolai Radziwill the Black, on whose instructions the Bible was printed in Berestye. Also on the monument there are generalized images of the inhabitants of the city - the chronicler, the mother, the soldier -the unknown defender of the Brest fortress.
All these figures are placed under the image of the Guardian Angel of the city, depicted with a cross. The angel faces the Brest Fortress, on the territory of which the historical center has long been located.
In 2011, three-dimensional sculptural reliefs in the Art Nouveau style with an area of 11 m2 were additionally installed around the monument. Here are the main historical moments of the Berestey land: the foundation of the city and the origin of its name, the construction of the city, the participation of the Berestey people in The Battle of Grunwald, edition Beresteyskaya (Radziwill) Bible, defense Brest Fortress in 1941, as well as space exploration by the first Belarusian, who is a native of the village of Komarovka in the Brest region.
This is a unique educational monument that tells us about the historical stages of the city of Brest. The architectural ensemble of the monument attracts and arouses the interest of tourists. It looks very majestic and monumental. The monument amazes and surprises with its greatness and significance. It is very entertaining to learn important historical moments by looking at this monument.
