Brest. Memorial to the "Guardians of the Borders".

The memorial to the "Guardians of the Borders" is located at the intersection of Masherov Avenue and Lenin Street, and is dedicated to the border guards who died during the Great Patriotic War. The central stele was installed in 1972 in the Border Guards Square. The authors of the monument are: sculptor M. Altshuler, architects A. Gorbachev, N. Milovidov. In 2001, with funds collected by personnel, veterans of the border troops of the Republic of Belarus, and other donations, a reconstruction was carried out, and a memorial complex was created on the basis of the "Border Guards" monument.

Since 2015, the memorial has been undergoing major repairs and was reopened in 2017. The granite slabs were replaced, the steps were restored, the site on which the monument is located was landscaped, and the surrounding area was improved. Currently, in addition to the main central monument, the memorial complex includes eight steles with bas-reliefs of border guard heroes: Ivan Petrovich Belyaev (deputy political officer, rifleman), Aleksandr Abramovich Zavidov (lance corporal, rifleman), Varlam Mikhailovich Kublashvili (senior warrant officer, senior controller), Ivan Petrovich Barsukov (Hero of the Soviet Union, colonel, head of the border detachment), Andrei Mitrofanovich Kizhevatov (Hero of the Soviet Union, lieutenant, head of the border outpost), Aleksey Aleksandrovich Novikov (junior sergeant, squad leader), Grigory Ilyich Kofanov (private, Red Army soldier), Garmayev Garmazhap Ayurovich (Hero of the Soviet Union, senior lieutenant, assistant to the chief of staff of the border commandant's office). Every year on May 28, a ceremonial rally dedicated to Border Guard Day is held at the Border Guards memorial.

The Border Guards Square is a place that city residents love very much. Previously, there was a vast park area on this site, which received the official name of "State Garden". It also had an alley of "Sighs and Sighs". The fact is that dates were often arranged here. Couples in love loved to stroll along the paved paths, and after a long walk, cool off in the shade of the crowns of thick trees, whispering affectionate words to each other. Today, this place has a more strict and solemn character. Interesting information about the square became known after excavations carried out by archaeologists. It was discovered that the garden is located on the mound of a pagan temple.
