Description
The narrow peninsula of Rustyagi in the north of Braslav region is a place for those who are looking for peace and want to see the famous lakes without crowds of tourists. The best view is from the panoramic platform near the village of Maskovichi: from here you can clearly see how a strip of land divides the water surface of the lakes Nespish, Nedrovo and Voiso. And in summer, you can explore the wild shores of Rustyagi from the water - on sap boards, gliding along the mirrored surface surrounded by century-old pine trees. The hidden pearl of Braslav region: the Rustiagi Peninsula
Braslav Lakes have long been a hallmark of Belarusian tourism. Thousands of travelers annually climb the famous Mayak Mountain to take classic photos overlooking the Strusto and Snuda lakes, wander through the cozy streets of the regional center and listen to the legends on Castle Hill. But there is a place in the Braslav region that has so far been bypassed by noisy tourist groups - this is the narrow and mysterious Rustyagi Peninsula. It is more difficult to get here than to the popular viewing platforms, but those who decide on this mini-trip will be rewarded with views of incredible beauty and tranquility.
Geography and location.
The Rustyagi Peninsula is located in the northern part of the Braslav region, in a system of large and deep lakes that a glacier left here thousands of years ago. If you look at the map, Rustyagi is an elongated "tongue" of land, extending into the water area, which is formed by three reservoirs at once: Lake Nepish, Lake Nedrovo and Lake Dzerba. This is not just a point on the map, but a natural boundary dividing the water surface.
However, to truly appreciate the scale and beauty of this place, you need to climb higher. The best viewing point on Rustyagi is not located on the peninsula itself, but opposite it - on a panoramic platform near the village of Maskovichi. While Mount Mayak offers views of the southern part of the lake district, Maskovichi gives the traveler the opportunity to see the wild, northern landscape. From this natural elevation, a stunning panorama opens up: against the background of the endless sky and dense forests, the Rustyagi peninsula seems like a thin arrow pointing to the very essence of Braslav nature. From here, you can clearly see the outlines of the lakes and how the peninsula divides the expanse of water.
How to see Rustyagi?
Getting to the Maskovichi viewpoint is not the easiest task, but it is doable. Usually the journey starts from the highway leading to Slobodka, where the famous Neo-Gothic Church of the Providence of God is located. It is necessary to focus not on the ancient settlement of Maskovichi (an archaeological monument), but directly on the village of Maskovichi. The road will lead directly to a huge mountain, climbing which you will find yourself at a viewing point.
A view from the water: sap walks.
However, in recent seasons, tourists have found another, more romantic way to explore these places - from the water. Braslav Lakes National Park and local tour operators are actively developing a new recreation area - walking on sap boards (SUP).
Kayaking has been practiced here for a long time, but it is the paddle boards that allow you to explore hard-to-reach shores and feel unity with nature as keenly as possible. One of the most scenic routes for such walks is Lake Nepis, with a mandatory visit to the Rustiagi Peninsula.
Imagine a quiet evening, the mirrored surface of the water and your sap board gliding along the coastline overgrown with century-old pine trees. Mooring to the shore of Rustyagi, you find yourself in a world where there are no highways or city noise. There is only the wind in the treetops, the cries of seagulls and the lapping of waves. For many, this contrast with the familiar urban environment becomes the main treasure of a trip to Braslav region.
Observation point on the Rustyagi peninsula (from the village of Maskovichi):
55.645833, 27.088333
If you plan to go rafting on a sap board, the starting point is usually Lake Nepis, with its approximate coordinates:
55.638611, 27.110556
Why is it worth coming here?
Braslav is often associated with beach holidays, tents and fishing, and rightly so. But the Rustyagi Peninsula is about something else. It's about contemplation and silence. People come here not for infrastructure, but for the opportunity to stop a moment.
To look at Rustiagi means to see Braslav region without embellishments and special effects, as it was centuries ago. This place offers a unique opportunity to feel like a pioneer, standing on top of a hill in Maskovichi and looking at a narrow strip of land stretching into endless waters, or slowly rounding it on a paddle board to the measured splash of oars. When the popularity of ecological and secluded recreation continues to grow, Rustyagi may well become a new word in the tourist geography of Belarus.
