The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a monument of pseudo-Russian architectural style, a significant historical landmark of Braslav.
The Orthodox Church in Braslav was first mentioned in the early 15th century. The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1897 from plastered brick on the site of the wooden church of St. Nicholas, which was moved to another location, and dismantled in the middle of the 20th century.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary has a cubic shape, a five-sided apse and a two-level bell tower topped with a hipped roof with a crown. The four-pitched roof is supported by five onion domes on octagonal drums. The entrances are decorated with arched portals on columns. The facades of the temple are divided by arched window openings with barrel columns.
The interior of the temple is richly decorated: more than a hundred icons adorn various parts of the interior, many of which were created in the 17th and 18th centuries and reflect the traditions of local art schools. These are the unique icons "Saint Nicholas", "The Apostles", "The Annunciation", "Candlemas", "Adoration of the Magi", "Archangel Michael", "Mother of God with Child", "Jesus Pantokrator", most of which were transported from Druya.
Especially interesting is the iconostasis, which consists of three levels, probably made by craftsmen from Kiev at the end of the 19th century.
Today, the ancient church performs its functions as a place of worship and spiritual communication of the population. It attracts both locals and tourists interested in the history and culture of the region.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an important part of Braslav's cultural heritage and a symbol of the spiritual life of the region.
