Description
In the city of Borisov, near the picturesque city park on Gastello Street, there is an amazing structure – the Shukhov Tower. This elegant metal structure, built in 1927, is significantly different from the usual water towers. It is part of the legacy of the great Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov.

The Shukhov Tower is an important part of Borisov's history.
Initially, the tower was intended to provide water for steam locomotives passing through Borisov station. Its uniqueness lies in the shape of a hyperboloid of rotation, formed exclusively by straight metal elements connected by rivets. This ingenious engineering solution made it possible to create a solid and lightweight structure that became an example of industrial architecture of its time.
Borisov's 27-meter-high 'Shukhovka' dominated the urban landscape for a long time. Despite the fact that in the 1950s, with the advent of pumping stations, the tower was transferred to the reserve, and then completely abandoned, it is still an important part of the history of Borisov.
Unfortunately, time does not spare the unique structure. The wooden casing that protected the pipes from the weather has completely rotted away, and the tower is gradually collapsing.
It is worth noting that in the Borisov district there is another notable water tower located at the Priyamino station, also related to railway facilities.
The Shukhov Tower in Borisov is a unique architectural and engineering structure that impresses with its scale and interesting solution. Fortunately, it is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus and is under state protection.
It remains to be hoped that measures will be taken to restore and preserve it for future generations as a valuable monument to engineering and the history of the Belarusian land.
