Description

The ruins of the prison castle in Borisov are a historical monument that attracts the attention of both locals and tourists. The castle was built on the site of a wooden and earthen fortification - Borisov Castle, which existed here for almost seven centuries. When these buildings began to collapse, it was decided to build a prison in their place. Today, only ruins remain of the prison castle: parts of the walls with bars in the window openings.

The ruins of the prison castle.

The two-storey prison castle for 75 prisoners was built at the end of the 19th century and was used to house prisoners and criminals. It was unique in its kind and became a landmark of the city. His image was even on Borisov's postcards.

The prison was built of stone and surrounded by a stone fence. It was surrounded by a defensive moat. In different historical periods, the castle has undergone many changes, which allow us to see the legacy of the fortress in the prison castle.

In the 20s of the 20th century, the prison was very badly destroyed. However, it continued to be used until the beginning of the Second World War. Unfortunately, after the end of the war, almost nothing remained of the castle.

During the years of Stalin's repressions, hundreds of prisoners were held in the Borisov prison castle.

In the 70s, defensive ditches were filled in. All the buildings fell into disrepair, and the population began to dismantle the walls into bricks.

The ruins of the castle are an impressive sight. The remains of high walls with bars in the window openings create an atmosphere of mystery and history. For the locals, however, the ruins are uninteresting and not particularly well known. There are residential buildings around the perimeter of the landmark, there are no signs to the ruins and there is no information about them. In order not to walk around the houses in search of a passage to the ruins, you should go to them through Gogol Street.

To date, the ruins of the castle are in a neglected state, but they attract the attention of archaeologists and historians. In recent years, work has been carried out on the conservation and restoration of the monument in order to preserve it for future generations.

The ruins of the prison castle in Borisov are not only an important historical site, but also a place where you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past. This is an interesting historical legacy.
