Borisov. Monument to Prince Boris

In the historical center of Borisov, on the former Shopping Square, there is a monument to Prince Boris, who is considered the founder of the city. The monument is installed near the Resurrection Cathedral of the 19th century among the historical buildings.

Sculptor Artimovich and architects Morozov and Kovalevsky designed the monument. Prince Boris is followed by an angel who protects him along his difficult life path. The prince holds a sword in his left hand, because in those days it was often necessary to defend his homeland with weapons in his hands.

According to written sources, it was Prince Boris Vseslavovich who founded the city of Borisov in 1102. The city was founded at the confluence of the Berezina and Skha rivers, and the prince named the city after himself – Borisov.

Prince Boris was the son of the legendary Polotsk Prince Vseslav the Magician, a prince from Polotsk. And after the death of Vseslav of Polotsk, Prince Boris began to rule in Polotsk. The prince put a lot of effort into expanding and strengthening his state, expanding Christianity and enlightenment. There are epigraphic monuments in Belarus, the so-called "Boris Stones", which are named after Prince Boris. Such stones have been preserved in Druya and in Polotsk.

If you visit the historical center of Borisov, then it is better to park the transport on the Shopping Square and then approach the monument to Prince Boris. Nearby you can still see some pre-revolutionary architectural monuments: the Resurrection Cathedral, the synagogue, shopping malls and civil buildings.
