Borisov. Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

The pre-revolutionary part of the Old City has been preserved in the historical center of Borisov. A shopping area with shopping malls, a synagogue building, the Orthodox Resurrection Cathedral and the Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

The first church in Borisov was founded in the early 17th century and the building was wooden. After a fire in 1806, the construction of a stone church began. The building was built by 1823. A little later, a multi-tiered tower was completed. In Soviet times, the church was closed and the tower was dismantled so that it would not dominate the city. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Catholic shrine was returned to the faithful and the bell tower was restored.

The church was built in the classical style with three naves. Initially, there were 2 towers on the main facade. But later they were dismantled and a five-tiered massive bell tower with a high spire was built. The central nave is taller than the side ones and is covered with a gable roof. The interior of the church is decorated with massive Doric columns. There are choirs above the entrance. There are burials in the cellars of the church. The main altar of the temple has a miraculous icon of Our Lady of Hodegetria with a silver chasuble.

The church's main facade is turned towards 3rd International Street. The street is quite narrow and it is not very convenient for tourists to put their own transport here. The easiest way is to drive straight 500 meters to the Shopping Square, where the Orthodox Resurrection Cathedral is located and put the car there. You can explore the church, the monument to Prince Boris on the square and walk up to the church.
