Description

If you want to see a unique triangular Orthodox church, you need to visit the village of Bolshaya Svorotva in the Baranovichi district. It is not easy to get there, but if you want, you can. There are several roads leading there: one through Gorodishche, the other through the village of Molchad.
The Church of the Holy Trinity has been restored and is operational.
A very unusual triangular-shaped temple building. The altar is on the side, not at the end of the building.

Bolshaya Svorotva. Holy Trinity Church.

On the outskirts of the village of Bolshaya Svorotva, a unique Church of the Holy Trinity has survived to this day. The first wooden church was built here in the 18th century. A brick one was built on the same site in 1823 with money from the landowner Yakub Nezabytovsky. The new church completely repeated the architectural features of the previous building.

The building was constructed of brick and rubble stone. In 1868, the iconostasis was made. It was painted blue, with gilded cornices, frames and carvings, and consisted of 13 icons arranged in a row. The bell tower, built separately from the church, had three bells, the largest of which weighed about three poods.

In 1886, a parish school was opened at the church.

During Soviet times, the temple was in a state of neglect.

In 2006-2009, the temple was restored. Now its territory has been improved, a stone fence has been built around it, and in front of the temple there are stone arched gates.

Since 2012, the Svorotvinsky temple has been an architectural monument and is protected by the state. The church is active.

An architectural monument of classicism. The building is centric, triangular in plan, with a hipped roof. The corners of the church are highlighted by columns and rusticated pilasters. The altar is in one of the three corners of the temple, and the interior is covered with a flat ceiling. The interior is plastered and whitewashed, the floor is brick.

This is the only temple in Belarus that has a triangular shape.

Why it is triangular - no one can say. Various versions have been put forward on this matter: architectural, multi-confessional, esoteric and even Masonic...
