Bolshaya Berestovitsa. The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
In the center of the town of Bolshaya Berestovitsa there are three ancient temples that were built before the revolution. The Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas was built in the city center in the 19th century. Initially, there was an old wooden church on this site, which has fallen into disrepair. The old church was dismantled and a chapel was built from its materials in the local cemetery.
A new church was built in 1878, and a stone bell tower was erected nearby in 1882. The building was built according to the project of architect J. Fardon. The project was developed in 1858. A significant part of the money was spent on the Orthodox Church by a local aristocrat, Count Stanislav Kosakovsky (1795-1872), who was a Polish diplomat in the Russian service.
In Soviet times, in the 1960s, the church was closed, and there was a warehouse here. In 1989, the church was returned to Orthodox believers. Restoration has been carried out. A pre-revolutionary burial of priests has been preserved near the church.
The church was built in a pseudo-Russian style. It has a volume that is centric in terms of volume. A four-sided light drum has been erected above the prayer hall, which is covered with a four-pitched roof.
