Description
The town of Bohdanovo has been known since the 16th century and was named after Prince Bohdan Sapieha. The wooden church was built in the early 19th century. We can judge what it looked like from the famous painting by local artist Ferdynand Ruszczyc. The church was destroyed during the war. Later, the temple was rebuilt from brick. In recent years, the church has been significantly rebuilt in the neo-baroque style. A monument to F. Ruszczyc (1870-1936) was erected next to the church.

Bogdanovo. Church of Archangel Michael.
On the way from Vishnevo to Golshany in the Volozhin district there is a beautiful village of Bogdanovo, known from written sources since the 16th century. At first the place belonged to the princes Golshany, and then to the Sapiehas. Bogdanovo got its name from Prince Bogdan Sapieha, who renamed the old settlement in his own name. Sapieha received permission from King Sigismund Augustus to open a tavern and conduct trades here. In addition to the estate, a Catholic parish was founded here under the Sapiehas.
The wooden church was built in the early 19th century. We can judge what the Catholic church looked like from the famous painting by artist Ferdynand Ruszczyc. The church was destroyed during the war, and at the end of the 20th century a new brick building was built in its place. In recent years, the temple has been rebuilt, acquiring neo-baroque and neoclassical features. A sculpture of Archangel Michael rises above the façade. On the right side, a two-tiered brick bell tower was built. Between the bell tower and the church, there is a monument to the famous artist Ferdynand Ruszczyc (1870 - 1936), a native of these places. Ruszczyc was a Belarusian-Polish artist and theater designer, born in Bohdanovo. His house was badly damaged during the war. F. Ruszczyc is buried in his homeland in Bohdanovo.
