Bogatkovka. Maxim Goretsky Literary Museum
Mstislavshchyna is the birthplace of the classic of Belarusian literature Maxim Goretsky and academician Gavrila Goretsky. Between the town of Mstislavl and Gorki, not far from the highway, there is the village of Bogatkovka. The Maxim Goretsky Literary Museum is located there.
Maxim Goretsky (1893-1938) was a classic of Belarusian literature, a writer, a public figure, a literary critic and a folklorist. One of the founders of the National Fiction. The author of the first "history of Belarusian literature". Together with his brother G. Goretsky, he published the "Russian–Belarusian dictionary". He was born into a peasant family in the village of Malaya Bogatkovka. He was married to the writer and translator Leonila Chernyavskaya (1893-1976). He recorded more than 300 folk songs from his mother Euphrosyne Mikhailovna and published them in a separate book.
Gavrila Goretsky (1900 - 1989) was the brother of M. Goretsky, an economist, geologist, geographer, archaeologist, public figure, academician of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences.
Over time, the villages of Malaya and Bolshaya Bogatkovka were united into one village Bogatkovka. And the literary museum was opened only in 1993. The authentic house of the Goretsky brothers was destroyed by fire back in Soviet times, and the building where the museum is now is a new model. But the new building has been restored according to the old old photos and plans. The building is a 19th-century Belarusian village house, consisting of 3 parts: a dark, heated, light, cold part and an entrance hall. The exposition is located in two halls, which tells about the life and creative path of the Goretsky brothers. The writer's parents are buried in the local cemetery.
Entrance to the museum is paid. The museum is a branch of the Mstislavsky District Historical and Archaeological Museum. There is no permanent employee at the museum, and to see the exhibition, you must first contact the museum in Mstislavl. The road to Bogatkovka from the Gorki – Mstislavl highway is good with a hard surface. There is a parking lot near the museum.
