Beshenkovichi. Khreptovichi estate.
Beshenkovichi is very conveniently located on the bank of the large river Western Dvina, which is an ancient trade route. The city has been known since the 15th century and at different times belonged to different owners, including kings and magnates.
In the 17th century, Beshenkovichi belonged to the Oginski family, who built a wooden estate. And since the 1770s, the new owners were the magnates Khreptovichi. Joachim Khreptovich (1729 – 1812) – Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, political and public figure, who did a lot for the development of the economy and culture in Belarus. It was Joachim Khreptovich who built the palace in Beshenkovichi.
In the very center of the city is the palace and park architectural complex of the magnates Khreptovich. There are many historical places left in Beshenkovichi, but the first thing worth visiting here is this small palace near a beautiful, cozy park with a pond. A greenhouse and outbuildings were built next to the palace. Now the palace building houses a children's art school.
The Khreptovich Palace is an architectural monument in the classical style. It is a two-story, U-shaped building. In the main building, above the main entrance, there is a balcony with a cast-iron decorative fence - artistic casting of the 19th century. The French-style park has been partially preserved - two ponds and plantings of oaks, lindens and maples. Not far from the palace there was an ancient oak tree, near which, according to legend, Napoleon rested in 1812. The tree withered several years ago.
