Bereza. A memorial sign to the wriggly warbler.
Landmark
Brest region, Bereza
Description
In Bereza city (Brest region) a monument was erected ... to a bird! And not just a simple one, but the rarest songbird in Europe, the wriggly warbler.
A unique metal art object was created by local blacksmith Mikhail Kozlovich. The bird seems to float in the air among the reed stalks. It was discovered in 2018, and it was no coincidence that they chose such a symbol: it is in these lands, in the "Sporovsky" Nature Reserve, that the largest population of this endangered species lives.
This place is a reminder of how important every detail in nature is. If you are in the Brest region, come and see this aerial sculpture.

Where the silence sings: monument to the wriggly warbler in Bereza
In the small Belarusian town of Bereza, in the Brest region, there is a place that at first sight conquers the hearts of travelers. Here, among the familiar urban landscape, there is an amazing art object dedicated not to generals or poets, but to Europe's rarest songbird, the wriggly warbler.
When metal acquires a soul.
Imagine this: on July 18, 2018, a monument was unveiled in Bereza, created not by state order, but by the dictates of the heart. The author of this composition was a local blacksmith Mikhail Kozlovich. He put all the warmth of his soul into the cold metal, and an elegant sculpture appeared, frozen in dynamic movement.
The bird seemed to have just taken off from a reed stalk. Her wings are spread out, and her head is slightly turned, as if she is about to burst into her famous trill. This work is striking in its lightness - looking at the delicate lines welded from metal rods, you forget that heavy steel is in front of you. The reeds under the bird are swaying from an invisible wind, creating the complete illusion that you are somewhere in a water meadow, and not in the center of the city.
Why the reed warbler?
Tourists often ask the question: "Why is this tiny bird given such an honor?". The answer lies in geography and ecology.
The republican nature reserve "Sporovsky" is located in the Bereza district, a unique corner of wildlife. These are huge tracts of lowland marshes, which are the last refuge for the wriggly warbler in Europe. This species of birds is on the verge of extinction and is listed in all imaginable Red Books.
The wriggly warbler is incredibly demanding of its habitat. She doesn't settle anywhere - she needs exceptionally vast, untouched sedge marshes with sparse shrubs. The Sporovo marshes have become an ideal home for her. It is here that one of the largest populations of this bird on the continent nests.
Thus, the monument in Bereza is not just a decoration of the city. It is a symbol of the fragility of nature and a reminder that we must cherish what is disappearing. This is a sign of gratitude to the little bird, which proved the value of the Belarusian marshes by its existence.
How to find it and what's nearby?
Getting to the monument is easy. It is located at coordinates 52.5367, 24.9873 (or you can navigate to the embankment in the area of Krasnoarmeyskaya Street).
Bereza itself is a city with a rich history. Once there was a famous Carthusian monastery, of which, unfortunately, only picturesque ruins remain. Therefore, a trip to the wriggly warbler monument can be combined with a walk through the historical center.
Why is it worth seeing with your own eyes?
When you stand next to this metal bird, you hear the sound of foliage and realize that just a few kilometers away, in the "Sporovsky" Nature Reserve, her living sisters are singing, you feel an incredible connection between times and events.
The monument to the twirly reed warbler teaches us to notice the beautiful in the small. It proves that the real symbol of the city does not have to be a bronze giant. It can be a small bird with a big heart, soaring in the sky above Bereza city.
