Bereza. Museum of Local Lore.

The Bereza Museum of Local Lore is located in the very center of the regional town of Bereza on Lenin Street. Bereza was first found in historical sources in the 15th century and there is a lot to tell here.

The museum was opened during the Soviet Union in 1963 and operated as an Historic-revolutionary museum. In 1993, after the independence of the Republic of Belarus, the museum began to be called the Bereza Museum of Local Lore. The educational institution is actively engaged in the collection and processing of local history material.

The museum's exposition tells about several significant stages in the life of the city of Bereza: the history of the Bereza district from the primitive era to the 17th century; the town of Bereza–Kartuz from the 17th to the beginning of the 20th century; the period of the Great Patriotic War; folk art and crafts of the Bereza Region; Bereza district at the present stage of life.

In the town of Bereza there is a unique architectural monument of the Baroque period of the 17th and 18th centuries, the former Catholic monastery of the Cartesians. During the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, this monastery was founded by the Sapieha magnates and their ancestral tomb was located here. The monastery buildings have partially survived to our time and are currently undergoing restoration. The main entrance gate has already been restored.

During the period of the Polish state in 1934 - 1939, a concentration camp for political prisoners was located on the territory of the city of Bereza, and part of the museum's exposition is dedicated to these tragic events under the title: "the Bereza–Kartuz concentration camp 1934 – 1939."

A significant area of the museum is devoted to exhibits dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people. The museum also has its own branch, the Art Gallery.
