Bereza. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

On the outskirts of the small Polesie village of Bereza in the Kobrin district, a wooden church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in 1864.

The temple was built on the site of the old church, which was destroyed by fire in 1863. The new church was most likely built according to the project of the provincial engineer V. Dementev. Supervision of the construction and calculation of financial costs was carried out under the supervision of the Lithuanian diocesan architect T. Savich. And the construction itself was carried out by master Vasily Garbuzov, who himself was from the Chernihiv province from the Krasnye Zlynki settlement. The money was donated to the church by the Emperor of the Russian Empire Alexander II himself, as well as the governor of the Northwestern Territory, Count Mikhail Nikolaevich Muravyov ("the hangman"), who transferred five hundred rubles.

The church was built in the folk traditions. It consists of four main parts: the vestibule, the refectory, the prayer hall and the apse. A bell tower is built over the narthex. The main volume of the prayer hall is covered with a four-pitched roof and on top there is an octagonal drum with an onion-shaped dome. Side portals with 4 columns and a pentagonal apse are attached to the prayer hall. The elongated refectory is covered with a gable roof. The entrance is decorated in the form of a six-column canopy.

In the interior there is a beautiful iconostasis with carved royal gates of the XIX century. Many icons are older than the temple and have been preserved from the former burned-down church, including the images of the XVII-XVIII centuries: "The Virgin Mary", "The Intercession", "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary", "Saints Peter and Paul", "The Virgin with the infant Christ and John" (1800), etc.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a monument of Belarusian folk wooden architecture with features of classicism.
