In the small regional center of Bereza, which is located between Brest and Baranovichi, there is a beautiful modern Orthodox church of Peter and Paul. The church was built in the 18th century in the Baroque style, as a Uniate temple, and then rebuilt during the Russian Empire in a pseudo–Russian style and was handed over to the Orthodox. Bereza. The Church of Peter and Paul.
Between Baranovichi and Brest there is a small town of Bereza, which has several temples. One of them is the Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
The church was originally built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the Baroque style in 1772 and belonged to Uniate believers. After the prohibition of the union during the Russian Empire in the 19th century, the building was handed over to Orthodox believers.
In 1867, the church was rebuilt in a pseudo-Russian style and the building consisted of four main parts: a vestibule, a refectory, a prayer hall and an apse. The interior had a wooden carved iconostasis. There were valuable icons from the 18th and 19th centuries, and some of them ended up in the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture in Minsk. Among the icons were "The Most Pure Theotokos," "The Mother of God with the Infant Christ and John," and "Intercession of the Mother of God."
In 1910, the church was rebuilt and significantly expanded, and the temple became a two-domed one. Although, according to some information, this perestroika took place precisely in the 19th century.
The church survived in this state until 1995. By that time, the building had fallen into significant disrepair, as repairs were not allowed in Soviet times. And since 1996, the renovation and reconstruction began, which was completed by 2003.
To date, there are 13 large onion domes above the temple, which symbolize the 12 apostles and Jesus Christ. The bell tower is 37 meters high. In 2000, the Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, consecrated the new church. A two-storey Sunday school building has been built nearby.
