Description
The village of Olgomel in Stolin district is rightfully proud of its Orthodox shrines. In the center of the village there are two Orthodox churches nearby: the ancient wooden Resurrection of Christ of the 19th century and the new stone church of Mary Magdalene.
The new stone church was built in 1994. It is built according to Orthodox canons and consists of 4 main parts. After the construction of the new stone church, divine services are held mainly in this temple, and in the old church quite rarely. In 2024, a fire broke out in the Church of Mary Magdalene. Repairs are currently underway.

Olgomel. Church of St. Mary Magdalene.
In the very east of the Brest region, 65 kilometers from the regional center of Stolin, the ancient village of Olgomel is located among forests and swamps.
The name is very unusual and there is a beautiful legend about it. According to legend, once upon a time, when the Holy Princess Olga was sailing along the local river, her ship ran aground. That's why the play on the words "Olga" and "Mel'" (stranded) turned out.
Olgomel was first mentioned in written sources in 1506. The first church was built here in 1528.
And the main attraction of the modern town of Olgomel are two Orthodox churches. And the wooden church that has survived to our time was erected at the beginning of the 19th century and a security plaque was installed on the monument with the following information: "Architectural monument. The Church of the Resurrection. 1817 of the XIX century . It is protected by the state". In the interior of this old church there are ancient precious icons of the 17th – 19th centuries.
In 1994, a modern stone church was built next to the Church of the Resurrection of God, which also has artistic value. The temple is built of red brick. The composition is based on a cross-domed volume to which a vestibule with a bell tower is attached. Above the main volume is a massive octagonal light drum.
In September 2024, a fire broke out in the building. The church is currently under restoration.
