Castles of eastern Belarus.
Description
The journey begins in Mozyr, on the high Spasskaya Hill above Pripyat river, where the recreated fortress of the XVI century sets the tone for the journey. Wooden towers, a view of the valley and the feeling of an ancient settlement immediately immerse you in the atmosphere of the southern lands, where defense was part of everyday life.
Bykhov Castle enhances the scale: bastions, moats and powerful walls remind of an impregnable fortress of the 17th century, which survived sieges, explosions and fires. This is an example of military architecture, where each line of fortifications is subordinated to the logic of defense and demonstrates the power of magnate clans.
In Smolyany, the rhythm becomes softer: the ruins of the White Kovel with a Renaissance tower and a moat create the image of a forgotten residence where architecture is intertwined with legends. The five-story tower, arched openings and fogs over the hills create a cinematic atmosphere, as if time has stopped.
Borisov brings back the severity — the ruins of a 19th-century prison castle give a sense of a multi-layered history: from an ancient fortress to the pages of repression. The ruined walls with bars create a strong visual image and remind us that history can be not only heroic, but also difficult.
In Minsk, Pishchalovsky Castle rises in austere towers above the city, adding an honest, heavy note to the route. It is a fortress prison that has never changed its purpose and preserves the memory of the fates of poets, participants in uprisings and public figures.
The finale is Nesvizh: the majestic Radziwill complex, where bastions, parks and state halls gather all the way to a harmonious culmination. Here, the eastern route reveals itself completely — from the harsh ruins and defensive lines to the splendor of the princely residence, which has become a symbol of Belarusian culture and architecture.
