When it comes to castles, the first thing that comes up are images of European countries - Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, France....&nbsp;However, Belarus is also capable of surprising! Sometimes it is called the "land of castles", because several centuries ago there were about 150 medieval castles and fortifications on the territory of modern Belarus.&nbsp; Unfortunately, only a few have survived to this day. These unique monuments, shrouded in legends and legends, amaze the imagination of travelers with their diverse architecture – from ancient defensive structures of the XIV century to elegant Gothic buildings. Nesvizh Castle is a palace and castle complex located near the small Belarusian town of Nesvizh, 120 km from Minsk, and it is not for nothing that they call the pearl of Belarusian architecture of the Middle Ages. Rich history, beautiful architecture, park complex, carefully restored historical buildings have turned the castle into a hallmark of Belarus, one of the most recognizable historical and architectural monuments of the country.
In 2005, the Palace and Castle Complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Nesvizh Castle

The Mir Castle and Park Complex is a defensive fortification and residence in the urban settlement of Mir in the Korelichi district, Grodno region, on the right bank of the Miranka River. Included in the UNESCO World Heritage List (since 2000).

The complex features the Mir Castle of the XVI–XX centuries, the tomb church of the princes Svyatopolk-Mirsky, the watchman's house, the ruins of the palace of the last owners, an outbuilding, a roadside chapel, an English landscape park with a pond, the remains of an Italian garden, earthen ramparts with bastions. The museum has 39 exhibitions.

Mir Castle

Kossovsky Castle is an architectural monument of the 19th century.  The palace stands on a hill, which offers fascinating panoramas of the surrounding area.
The restoration of Kossovsky Castle started in 2008. Since the fall of 2017, the castle began to receive visitors in several rooms, where there was a small exposition telling about the history of Kossovsky Castle, and the full opening took place in December 2022. The facades and interiors were completely renovated according to the preserved drawings, new engineering networks and a heating system were laid.

The New Castle in Grodno is a royal palace built opposite the Old Castle in the period from 1737 to 1752. Its construction was carried out under King Augustus III. The palace in Grodno was to become the royal residence and venue of the General Sejms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
In 1991, the palace was transferred to cultural institutions, its main building and the left wing were occupied by a museum. The premises were reconstructed into a suite of exhibition halls, and some of them were adapted for storage rooms. Permanent exhibitions and temporary exhibitions are currently operating in the New Castle.

The Old Castle in Grodno is an architectural monument in Belarus, a complex of defensive structures, religious and secular buildings of the XI–XIX centuries, located in the historical center of Grodno.
The Old Castle is the only surviving royal castle in the territory of modern Belarus. For a long time it was the residence of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and the kings of Poland.
The palace, fragments of defensive walls, ruins of the Lower and Upper Churches, princely chambers, a bridge and a castle have been preserved to this day.
The Grodno State Historical and Archaeological Museum is now located in the castle.

A castle in Belarus, in the city of Lida, built in 1323 on behalf of Prince Gediminas. It was part of the line of defense against the Crusaders: Novogrudok — Krevo — Medniki — Troki.
The castle was built of rubble stone and brick, and had the shape of an irregular quadrangle with two corner towers.
In 1955, Lida Castle was included in the list of architectural monuments placed under state protection. In 1985, the complete conservation of the Lida Castle was carried out. Restoration work has been underway for the last two decades. Currently, the exposition is located in two towers.

Lyubchansky Castle is located in the urban settlement of Lyubcha, Novogrudok district, Grodno region, on the picturesque banks of the Neman River. It was built in 1581 by the influential tycoon Jan Kishka. Combines two architectural styles: Gothic and Renaissance. Lyubchansky Castle is included in the list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus.


By the beginning of the reconstruction, it consisted of two dilapidated corner towers of the XVI century and several stone buildings of the last century, built on the preserved foundations of the palace of the XIX century.

Lyubcha Castle

The remains of the 17th-century Sapieha Castle, a church with a monastery, an Orthodox church with civil buildings and an ancient settlement have been preserved in Golshany. In recent years, the castle has been under restoration and is now open to visitors.
The architectural complex of the castle is a quadrangle with defensive towers at the corners. There were living and utility rooms in the castle walls. The castle is built in the Renaissance style and somewhat resembles the castles and palaces of Holland.

Krevo Castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century. It is the first castle in Belarus to be completely built of stone.
Today we can see the ruins: the walls of the castle, which have survived along the perimeter, and partially preserved towers. Restoration and restoration work has been going on here for a long time. The best view of the ruins is from the top of a high hill – Yurieva Gora (a former pagan temple).
Photo zones and stands are organized for tourists. A visit to the territory is possible as part of an organized excursion.

In medieval Belarus, our country was sometimes called the land of castles. And one of the best castles was the castle in Bykhov, which was first built by the Khodkevich magnates, and then by the Sapieha. In the 17th century, the castle was considered impregnable, and on its territory there was an armory and a huge stock of weapons. 
Archaeological excavations have been carried out in recent years. Two towers have been restored. The rest of the castle is in disrepair.
