Ruzhany. A small town with a long history.

Description

Ruzhany is a place where time slows down, and every stone holds a secret. Here Lev Sapieha laid the foundations of power, architect Becker created Baroque masterpieces, and today a traveler touches several centuries in one day.

1. Sapieha Palace.

In 1598, the lands were acquired by Chancellor Lev Sapieha. A castle with three towers has grown on the site of the old manor. Later, architect Becker turned it into a Baroque gem: with a park, canals and a theater. The fire of the 19th century left ruins, but since 2008 the complex has been reviving. Today, you can visit the museum and see the monumental entrance gate.

2. The synagogue.

One of the largest stone synagogues in Belarus (late 18th century) stands on the former Shopping Square. There was a yeshiva nearby. Until 1939, life was in full swing here, then the building was a warehouse, a mill, a garage. Today, the synagogue is awaiting restoration. The remains of the bimah and fragments of ancient frescoes are still visible inside. An honest reminder of the multifaceted history of a town.

3. Peter and Paul Church.

In 1639, Kazimir Sapieha founded a church and monastery here. In 1781, the current Baroque building was consecrated. The main treasure is the icon "Mother of God Odigitria" (about 1648). According to legend, it saved the church in the fire of 1895. Today, the church is alive: services, Sunday school, burning candles - just like hundreds of years ago.

4. The Catholic church of the Holy Trinity.

The first wooden church appeared at the end of the 15th century. In 1615-1617, a stone church in the early Baroque style grew. Later, Becker added chapels. Inside: a 17th-century main altar with dark marble columns, an antique organ and a 16th-century cross from the very first wooden church.

5. St. Casimir's Catholic church.

There is a small church built in 1792 in the classical style in the old cemetery. Recently renovated. Saint Casimir is the patron saint of the townspeople, depicted on the city coat of arms.
